Pont-à-Mousson. “We carried 50-kilo parts”: how technology has transformed the mechanic’s job

Jérôme Dubois and Jérôme Piot, independent mechanics in the Pont-à-Mousson area, have been mechanics for over 30 years and have seen their profession undergo numerous changes since they began. These changes are all the more visible when they interact with young apprentices. They share their experiences.
Founded in 1983, the Dubois garage continues its activity in Pont-à-Mousson . Since 2007, Jérôme Dubois has taken over from his father.
"Twenty years ago, it was still a bit of a dirty job. When I was young, I knew street mechanics, where you washed your car with gasoline. It wasn't as draconian in terms of cleanliness," admits Jérôme. He's been in the business for 35 years. "A mechanic didn't have hands as clean as we do today."
